Issues

Homelessness

Homelessness is a complex challenge that demands community collaboration—not fear. While we have made progress on homelessness in Georgetown, there is more work to do. Dignity and accountability go hand in hand: access to job training, mental-health support, recovery programs, and structured volunteer opportunities will be prioritized to reconnect people to community life.

Iztel will partner with the organizations already doing this work to coordinate services, eliminate duplication, and move people toward stability.

Affordable Housing

Georgetown needs a real commitment to affordable housing—because the single biggest driver economic insecurity and homelessness is that working people cannot find a place they can afford to live.

We should be able to spend no more than 30% of our income on housing – but that’s often not the case here in Georgetown. Statewide, we are nearly 20,000 units short of what we would need to allow all our residents to have affordable housing.

What can we do here in Georgetown? I will work with our local commission to implement their strong recommendations and ensure a collaborative relationships with state and federal partners.

Public Safety

Public safety is built on trust between residents and law enforcement. Georgetown’s police department, under Chief Holm, has spent years earning that trust—through community policing, bilingual outreach, programs like the Citizens Police Academy, PAL youth engagement, and family workshops on personal safety.

Itzel Hernández will protect and build on that progress. She supports continued investment in infrastructure, such as enhanced lighting, in underserved neighborhoods, and expanded civic education so every resident understands their rights and feels confident engaging with local government.

Clean Neighborhoods

Every neighborhood in Georgetown deserves to be clean, safe, and well-maintained. When properties fall into disrepair, it is often because landlords are not meeting basic standards—not because tenants are at fault. Itzel Hernández will push for consistent, fair code enforcement that holds property owners accountable while keeping expectations reasonable and clear. She also supports expanding access to public trash and recycling cans—including a student-designed initiative that promotes civic pride—and continued investment in better lighting and public infrastructure throughout the town.

Business Development & a Thriving Economy

Georgetown’s economic future depends on balancing residential growth with real business development. With our strong town manager, a capable planning department, and an established process, our next mayor can focus on bringing energy and vision to drive investment in our town.

Itzel Hernández will be an evangelist for Georgetown—actively recruiting businesses, supporting small entrepreneurs, and making it easier for companies to invest here. She will build on the economic development legacy that has grown Georgetown over the past twelve years while bringing fresh energy to attract the next wave of opportunity.
